          | | Friday Sept 19, 1980 Local music store Guitar Showcase engaged the old San Jose Civic
Auditorium where I saw the Circus and the Harlem Globetrotters as
a kid and the Tubes and the Blue Oyster Cult among others as a young
adult. The event was intended to promote Emmet Chapman's Stick,
so Emmet opened and a group of Guitar Showcase instructors and staff
headlined as 'The Stick Band'. Poster probably produced by the Guitar Showcase graphics folks
who did their t-shirts and ads    | |
          | | Thurs Aug 7, 1980 Flapper McGee's was a San Pedro Square nightclub which was
owned by some neighbors of Pete's. For a brief period in the early
'80s long-time top 40 AM radio station KLIV became a 'Modern Rock'
music station when AM stereo debuted -they sponsored the show and
ran free ad spots promoting the event. Our good friends at Backstage Music were also sponsors, and Backstage
family member Jim Bohn's metal group Traxx opened. Poster by Kari

          | | Sat Sept 27, 1980 One of Netherworld's final shows was at the spacious Spangenberg
theater in Palo Alto. Sponsor KFJC,
then as now was one of the leading college radio stations promoting
underground music. DJ Mike Belmas had a progressive rock show on
the station and he was instrumental in helping us get this gig and
in helping to promote it. Some of the most vividly colored pictures in the gallery section
were taken at this concert. Following this show Lighting Designer
Steve Yarbrough went 'pro' -moving to LA and going on to do lighting
for the likes of Hall & Oates, David Bowie, Elton John and Billy
Joel. The poster was probably designed by the KFJC promotions dept and
appears to be a science-fiction comic or pulp novel illustration. | |
